revolution

Revolution, that was the theme of spiritual emphasis retreat, which we returned from yesterday. I didn't know where the group in charge was going to take this theme, but it became a powerful word over just a few days. They talked about revolution in three different ways: 1. revolt, what must we revolt against in our world and then what are we going to turn to? 2. revolve, what does your life revolve around and 3. love, any revolting or revolving we are doing starts with the love of Christ. The student council picked the theme and it really hit home when the speaker talked about Bob Marley and other revolutionaries that the students admire. Obviously they did not do the same revolting as we were challenged to do, but it seemed to get to some kids! Their program included praise and worship which was wonderful to be able to do in English again, many skits all of which I was in and much time spent in small group discussion. Overall most students were interested and participating, which is what we were going for!
Other activities of the retreat included many hours in the pool playing and throwing balls at each other, you will see many pictures of that in the retreat album. There was also an afternoon of games. We are proud to say that Tony along with the other male teachers won the soccer tournament. Danielle along with the other female teachers won the dodge ball tourney, we even beat the senior class, we were pretty proud! Tony and I also competed in a hot dog eating contest. Neither of us wanted to, but with everyone chanting, "Schnyders, Schnyders," we felt compelled:) The hot dogs were uncooked and the buns were dry, we had no ketchup, only water. It was absolutely disgusting. I only finished two in 10 minutes, Tony finished three, I could have done more, but it was so not worth it.
It was a great experience to see the students out of the normal school setting, play games with them and share a little more about why we are the way we are!
This is a pretty normal week for us, which will be nice to get a lot done in the classroom, we only have 30 school days left and I feel like there is soo much to do yet:(
One more note: I cannot believe the crazy winter you are all having back in the Midwest, while we were getting fried in the sun this week, you all were in a blizzard: crazy. I think we picked a great winter to be our first out of the area:)

Sounds like you had a great time at retreat! Yes, we are not enjoying a cold spring. Actually the Wgtn. area received mostly rain. We hope to be in the 60's this week. So it is getting better. Hope your last month of school goes well! Can't wait to see you at the wedding! Mom
