Thanksgiving Break

Danielle and I had a lot of fun on our most recent break. We had plans to go to El Salvador and hang out on the beach. On Wednesday the 21st we had a half-day of school and then the parents organized a big thanksgiving feast for teachers and students. Unfortunately most of the food that we got was cold and the stuffing was not quite Stove Top, according to Danielle. They had music playing and kites flying, so all in all it was a really nice gesture on behalf of the parents.
After the meal, we went home and changed and met at the bus station so that we could make it to Guatemala City as soon as possible. On the bus ride to Guatemala City they played a movie on the bus that was definitely not PG. I joked with Danielle that when Fathers have to have the talk with their boys they say, "Son I think its time we took a bus to Guate." Anyways, we made it to Guate in time to get some Applebee's. Boy oh Boy, did we eat good in the neighborhood. After we had all loosened our belt buckles we made it back to our hotel/lodge/hostel where some of the girls attempted to put a puzzle together. It didn't last and soon we were all sleeping.
Early the next morning (22nd) we hopped on a bus from Guatemala City to San Salvador. The bus ride was long but it went really smoothly. By 1:00 in the afternoon we were getting handled by the oceans waves, and soaking up the sun's rays. We were all pretty tired from the bus ride so after taking pictures of the sunset and chilling in hammocks we decided to call it a night. We stayed right on the beach in a thatch roof hut for 7 dollars a night. For drinks and orders they used the honor system. No paying up front. Take what you want from the cooler and write it on your own tab. The resort was a Dutchman's dream: Beautiful, cheap, and on the honors system.
On the 23rd we woke up early, had some breakfast, and covered ourselves in sunscreen. 5 hours later you could see eight very bright red gringos walking around the pool area. At night we taught some of the other teachers how to play Gert's Gin. It is a great card game and the girls played it for hours.
The next morning it was time to head back to San Salvador so that some of the ladies could do their shopping. We hung out in the mall for most of the day and then we stayed in a really shady hostel. There were 6 beds in the room and it smelled like mold and had two showers for the entire building. We survived though and actually didn't sleep too poorly.
On Sunday we woke up hit the bus station and did not see home until 8:00 P.M. It was a really long bus ride but it was definitely worth it. We have a lot of good pictures of our trip so check them out at our shutterfly account. The link is just to the right "Our Pictures."
