Only in Guatemala

Only one and a half more days of school and we are off to the beach in El Salvador. We are a little excited as you can tell to get out of cold Xela and soak up some sun! We head To Guatemala City Wednesday after school and onto El Salvador Thursday morning! Pray for safe travel.
Saturday we were able to go to the wedding of one of the secretaries at school. The invitation said 10:00 and the bride had told us that it should start on time. We show up right at 10:00 and like everything else in Guatemala the show finally got on the road at about 10:45. In Guatemala in order to get married you must have a civil and religious service, Vero, the secretary had them together. The the ceremony started with all the family marching in, we then got a 30 minute speech from the mayor about how many divorces are happening these days, not a very happy speech. While he was talking, his cell phone rang, and as soon as he was done, he called someone, in front of everyone- only in Guatemala. Next the pastor said a few words, parental blessings were given, rings were exchanged a few other traditions that I did not understand took place, and after almost two hours, the ceremony was over. It was a good Spanish learning experience again. After the wedding we got a ride from a friend to the reception! Getting a ride anywhere is always a treat. The reception had 2 live bands and great food. It was a fun afternoon.
The rest of the weekend was spent sleeping and doing school work.
A very funny thing happened today at school, here is the story: So it is 3rd period and I am lecturing my 7th graders on how to change a repeating decimal into a fraction( a very confusing concept to them) When all of the sudden a large black bird comes flying into the room from the hallway and is headed right for my head. I obviously let out a little scream and jump out of the way. The kids think I am crazy (not for the first time) because they do not realize what is happening until they see the bird flying into the board. The bird then heads towards the windows and tries to get out. At this point everyone is screaming and jumping out of their seats. Then Young, a brave young man calming get out of his seat, goes over to the bird, corners him down, grabs him with both hands and puts him out the window. THANK YOU YOUNG. It is not until after the bird it out of the room when I am walking past the white board the I realize there is bird poo running down my board-disgusting(picture) Needless to say, class is crazy by now and instruction time is over. So I give a little assignment and we all just laughed at what just happened- Only in Guatemala.
I am about to make a new album of what we have been up to lately so check that out.
That is all the exciting news for now, I will write more when we get back from El Salvador. Peace.
