Parent Teacher Conferences

Yesterday we had the wonderful opportunity to have our first parent-teacher conferences. Report cards came out yesterday, so parents had to come and pick them up from the teachers, and then we got to discuss their children. Because most of the parents speak little English and I speak little Spanish it made it interesting. All the bilingual staff at school was helping other teachers, so I had to fend for myself. For the most part it want very well, I know enough Spanish and they know enough English that the important things were communicated. I did have a translator for one set of parents who speak NO English:) All the parents were very supportive and want their children to do well, so that was encouraging
It just happened to be that I gave two of my students IAS detentions yesterday. This is pretty big deal and the boys were even crying. So I was able to tell their parents the entire situation and explain my reasoning. The parents totally understood and were also going to punish their children, so I am expecting some pretty well behaved boys today-YEAH!
Tomorrow we are off to Mexico to renew our passports. It is about a 5 hours trip by the time we get to the border, get through the border and get to our hotel, so it will be a long day, but worth it!
That is all for now, we will tell of our weekend when we get back!

Sounds like things are going well for you there. We too have had a lot of rain, and when it finally broke, I was so glad to finally see the sun again. It was good to catch up with your lives there in another country. Things here are going well, and as you probably here, are somewhat the same, and some things have changed. I will stop in when I can, and catch up on the life in Guatemala! Brad from WFFB( you know)
