Today was open house at school. All parents were welcome to come and meet the teachers. I was able to meet about 10 parents from the Middle School. It was really great to be able to know at least a few parents. They were all very supportive and willing to do anything I needed. They want the best for their children and are paying a decent amount for their education, so they are very involved. It's a wonderful blessing. tony was able to talk to a few parents and possibly set up a trip for us with a family to the Pacific coast, so we will see where that goes?!?
This weekend is Independence day. We do not have school on Friday and are planning on going to the big fair that is in town. It has been described to us as the ultimate county fair. There is lots a good cheap food, and many rides. None of which are safe because there are no safety codes, but I am going to give them a try- it should be a blast. Because this is a celebration for all of Guatemala, town will be packed. We were warned to be extra careful, not to take any valuables or a lot of money with us, or it will be taken. We plan on just taking it all in and enjoying it for what it is. It should be a great time!!
It has been quite nice here this week as it only rained 2 days! We are slowing getting used to our walk to and from school, and once in a while are lucky enough to get picked up with someone from school! Our spanish is slowing improving ( Tonight I was able to give the Pizza man directions to our apartment!!) and we will be starting lessons next week.
That is all for now, we will share our weekend adventures once we have experienced it all!
