Hello again everyone! Sorry that it has been so long since our last post, but we had a week off of school for Holy Week. Danielle and I went with another married couple on a journey to Mexico and here is a breif synopsis of where we went and what we saw. We had a half day of school on Friday 14th, so right after classes we hopped on our first bus that got us across the border into Mexico. There we boarded our overnight bus to Oaxaca City, Mexico. That bus ride lasted for 12 hours and we arrived in in Oaxaca at about 9 in the AM. We spent three nights in at a youth hostel that was very accomodating. Oaxaca had many different cool things to see and do. The three days were spent looking through amazing old cathedrals, exploring zapotec ruins, and taking in some theatre. The ruins were our favorite part of the trip because it was just so much bigger than any of the picutures that we had seen. I was just overwhelmed at how something like this had existed so long before us. The ruins are symmetrical and are set almost perfectly north and south. Really amazing stuff. The video below is just a very small taste of what the ruins actually look like in person.
We also saw the largest biomass in the world while in Oaxaca. It is a tree named Tule and it 58 meter in diameter. It was an incrediable site. you can check out more picture and info at http://www.delange.org/Tule/Tule.htm
After our three days in oaxaca we hopped on a bus that took us to Puerto Escondito (Hidden Port in English) and we arrived there at about 8 at night. Puerto Escondito has some of the best surfing beaches in central america and the waves were unbelievable. It was exceptionally hot in the city though and the three days that we spent there were days of constant sweat. The majority of our days here were spent hanging out on a couple different beaches and trying to stay cool. There was a surfing competition going on while we were there and the beaches were all a little crowded because of the holidays. All told we had an excellent time and we are happy to be back in Xela. Many pictures have been uploaded of the trip, with more to come!
Nothing too special this week, just Parent Teacher Conferences on Thursday, so that could make for some interesting communication issues.
We hope you all had a good Easter break and are able to enjoy the warming weather.
