finally

This blog is about last weekend and a little late, but I still wanted to share our experiences with you all. We spent the weekend in Antigua the nicest and cleanest city in Guatemala at a conference called Intermissions. This is a weekend retreat for all Enlgish speaking missionaries in Guatemala. There were about 500 people there, adults and children.
The weekend consisted of praise and worship, workshops on various subjects, lots and good food, fellowship and just relaxing. It was great to hear the Word preached in English again. Singing with a group of believers in English is something that we miss greatly down here, so to have that opportunity again was such a blessing. I (Danielle) spent part of Saturday afternoon walking around Antigua, checking out the shopping and amazing architecture. (pictures coming soon) We were gone the entire weekend, but it was fabulous.
Tony decided to take the day Saturday to hike Pacaya, and he will tell you about that.
Pacaya is the most active volcano in Guatemala so a couple of the other teachers and I decided we would give it a shot and see if we could get some good shots of the lava. We took off from Antigua at about 2:30 and arrived at the base around 3:30. Pacaya had erupted at the base three weeks before we were there, so we did not have to climb very far to get to a point where we could see the lava up close. It was an hour and a half hike and next thing you know we are up there poking the lava with sticks and roasting marshmallows. The lava fields are the single most amazing thing that I have ever seen with my eyes. Here is a little taste of what we saw. Sorry that the video gets a little jerky towards the end, but the person filming it nearly fell down.

If anyone is down in Guatemala for any reason they need to go and check this place out.

Hey,
So, Tony, how were the lava roasted marshmallows? Those pictures are pretty amazing! I am so glad you had that experience, and that you two were able to spend time with English speakers in worship. The pictures of the town and hotel looked really clean and beautiful. Have a wonderful week! Love you both!
